Two days before inaugeration day.

Made the guest list for my 60th.
Found the venue.
Sorted the invites.
Travelled back from the cottage in my pyjamas.
Bought just the one Sunday newspaper.
Put in the washing,. Blitzed the cottage.
Tidied the flat and now I’m curling up for Sunday evening.
night night.

  1. I watched it online with half an eye with no sound while at work (The Times/Sky News) – safe in the knowledge that I was recording the BBC – weird seeing the arrival of all the ex-presidents. At home I saw that the guy swearing him in made him fluff the oath, a probable manifestation of nerves on both their parts. I thought the speech was low key but hit all the right notes. The poem was strange … On the Elvis Costello show, Clinton said it was odd no longer hearing ‘Hail to the Chief’ whenever he went anywhere. Hope the musical events around the inauguration herald a more musical White House (like Clinton’s day). Hope is definitely the key note here and although January has so far dragged its way along, this was for sure the high point.
