Buggered from Brugger

I am back.

It’s 23.02 English time. Out there in Belgium it would be 00.02. All them noughts.
And yes, it was me in Brugger. I know we say Brughe, but they don’t. Lovely to hear from Cutesy, my wonderful camera op, and lovely to get all your comments – they’re still thrilling me. But enough with the vinegar already, although to be fair the smell has died down over the last five days.

But in answer to your query as to whether I had seen Market Kitchen…

I steeled myself and watched it tonight. There was no reason for me to cry but I did shed a tear. Principally because I felt that the young pretenders had ousted me and that the food took second place to attractive young folk doing their stuff.

I asked my eldest daughter Hanna, who’s been house sitting, her opinion and she said, ‘4*&*^xxxnmund fu;,nuclbh,mn’. I then asked Jim as I wanted a balanced opinion and he said, ‘Listen love, *9(9),nlfiuw45ugb’. So, all in all we are pretty much agreed that the show… well, the show is… well, what I’m trying to say is that the show IS.

You will forgive me for not writing more this evening. I am buggered from Brugger, but I will sit down on Friday and regail you with tales of mussels and chips, food poisoning and fascists. So, do join me. Cu2morrer.

  1. Oh Jeni, I’m so glad to have found your blog. I’m writing from Sydney, Oz, and today they will show your last GFL programme – I can’t bear it. I can’t boil water but I loved your programme, it was so much fun. What lame-brained exec takes a wonderful beloved programme, at it’s peak, and assassinates it? I hope there will be some way to see and enjoy you again. Wishing you only happiness and success

  2. Looking forward to hearing about Brugge as am thinking of going in October.
Market Kitchen is simply not in the same league,it’s bitty, distracting and there are no fabulous personalities..and a complete lack of sparks or humour. I do hope the powers that be take note of all the distraught “Bring back Jeni” campaigners because it feels like losing a family member to me.
Keep writing to us all Jeni.
    Love from Louise in Estepona,Spain.

  3. HI JENI,HOPE YOU HAD A LOVELY TIME ON YOUR BREAK. MY OPINION OF MARKET KITCHEN IS ALSO &^%*+#**^)….TRANSLATED INTO “ALLOWABLE” LANGUAGE….DULL, DULL, DULL,BORING AND THAT LITTLE SQUEAKY VOICE OF MRS RAMSAY IS VERY HARD TO TAKE. SO AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, I TRIED IT SO THAT I COULD MAKE A REALISTIC JUDGEMENT AND THAT’S JUST WHAT I HAVE DONE. I WILL NOT BE WATCHING AGAIN. NO DOUBT WE WILL SOON SEE A RANGE OF FOOD FROM “TANA’S KITCHEN”. MAYBE THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT !!!. HAVE A GREAT WEEK-END JENI. WE ALL MISS YOU SOOOOOO MUCH.

  4. Welcome back jeni, I have tried to watch Market Kitchen because I told myself that by refusing to watch I was just being sentimental over losing your goodself and the GFL team. So, three times this week I have pressed the button on my remote control and tuned in. I am happy to say I was right to do so as it confirmed that UKTV Food have gone out of their minds and replaced their best program (and presenter) with a pile of *99),nlfiuw45ugb'(I do have to admit I only managed to watch for about 20 minutes each time before I turned over, I couldn’t stomach any longer!)
Get yourself back on the telly soon Jeni and show them how it should be done.
    Take care

  5. To Jeni:
Just found out today that GFL has finished (Im in Australia). Feeling very sad.
I have thoroughly enjoyed you energy and hilarious sense of humour.
    Thanks For the laughs.
All the best in your future endeavours.
    Andrew

  6. What can I say Jen, I watched the young pretender once and only once and lasted about ten minutes! Its not only so much of what I and many others expected, but much much worse. I could go on for ever about its negatives but to be honest it doesnt even deserve the rant! The message boards are full of comments from unhappy people who are now fast becoming ex UKTV viewers, myself included. We can only hope that the idiots in suits will finally come to realise just what a major fuh-pah they have made. When they do (and they will as there will be very few viewers left) I hope you will have moved on to bigger and better things and can tell them exactly where to shove it! Glad you enjoyed Brugger, the mussels in Cornwall are better though, we just pick them off the rocks when they get a bit bigger…. All the best. Lesley & Grumpy

  7. Great to have you back. Hope you enjoyed Brugge as much as we do.
Jeni, you are braver that me. I have not and will not watch Market Kitchen and by other people’s comments it’s not worth the effort.
In the good old GFL days I used to ensure that I finished work (I work from home) so that I was preparing dinner so that we would start eating not long after GFL started. Life is not the same now and mealtimes are less funny.
Last year we had the kitchen remodelled and for two months had no TV in the kitchen. I made sure that a TV was installed for the show restarting after the summer break.
The weather may be warm but it is hard that this is not just a summer break for GFL.
Looking forward to hearing you comments on Brugge

  8. Hi Jeni, what the hell were GFL thinking of? They take off the best presenter we have ever seen on a food program and replace it with the biggest load of #@#@ I have seen in my life! I could barely watch 10 mins of it-its noisey, unprofessional and #@~$
I pray the powers that be see sense and give you back your job!To see you taste what was on offer was a joy-a girl after my own heart!! Good luck with everything you do and hope to see you back soon!
